Tissue Mill Control System
CityForest Corp.

Important operations use “one button” sequences

When CityForest Corp's completed its major upgrade program, a state-of-the-art control system was installed to complement the new facilities.

The key features of the system included:

  • extensive use of SFC (sequential function control) for unit operations and "one button" startups, shutdowns and grade changes (e.g., the pulping system utilized 6 inter-linked SFC programs to complete each batch in the 20 minute time allotment)
  • I/O cabinets located in the MCC rooms along with the controllers and communication hardware (i.e., instrument signals are collected at field junction boxes and sent to the I/O cabinets via multi-conductor cables)
  • re-use of an existing Measurex-Honeywell QCS (quality control system)
  • a 4 channel field bus for communication between the control system and QCS

Dick Engineering's role in the project included:

  • definition of control requirements
  • selection of hardware
  • I/O wiring
  • system connections
  • logic testing
  • commissioning and startup
