Milling System Upgrade
Hiram Walker & Sons Ltd.

A major upgrade was made possible by careful planning and proficient engineering.

For over a century, Hiram Walker & Sons Ltd. has operated an integrated facility (from grain to glass) for producing a large variety of distilled and blended liquors. The flagship of their products is Canadian Club whisky, which is distributed throughout the entire world.

As part of their production improvement program, the milling system required an upgrade. This project consisted of the following major tasks:

  • optimization of the existing grain handling system to eliminate excess storage capacity and high maintenance equipment
  • provision of new milling equipment
  • installation of a new automation system including field instruments and MMI

Dick Engineering was retained to provide preliminary and detailed engineering, procurement and construction review.

Careful coordination of engineering, procurement, production, construction and commissioning was essential to meet a condensed construction schedule during the summer plant shutdown.
