OCC Stock Prep System
Weyerhaeuser Company Ltd.*

Weyerhaeuser wanted to develop an old corrugated container (OCC) recycling pulp mill to replace its existing semi-chemical pulping line. The objective was to make corrugating medium from the recycled pulp that was equal to or better than that made with virgin pulp.

A very simple, but highly effective system was decided on, comprising:

  • bale conveyor
  • continuous pulper and detrashing screen
  • high density cleaner
  • coarse screening system
  • forward cleaning system
  • thickener
  • pressurized dispersion
  • high density storage
  • refiners
  • DCS control system
  • trash handling system

In order to reduce the projects costs, existing buildings were extensively renovated and re-used for the new mill. Dick Engineering's role in the project included:

  • feasibility study
  • appropriation grade capital cost estimate
  • detailed design
  • procurement
  • construction and startup assistance
