Weyerhaeuser wanted to develop an old corrugated container (OCC) recycling pulp mill to replace its existing semi-chemical pulping line. The objective was to make corrugating medium from the recycled pulp that was equal to or better than that made with virgin pulp.
A very simple, but highly effective system was decided on, comprising:
- bale conveyor
- continuous pulper and detrashing screen
- high density cleaner
- coarse screening system
- forward cleaning system
- thickener
- pressurized dispersion
- high density storage
- refiners
- DCS control system
- trash handling system
In order to reduce the projects costs, existing buildings were extensively renovated and re-used for the new mill. Dick Engineering's role in the project included:
- feasibility study
- appropriation grade capital cost estimate
- detailed design
- procurement
- construction and startup assistance
