Oil Blending System |

Jan 15/08: Unilever is a world-wide leader in following the "healthy eating trend" and providing consumers with new specialty products. Its margarine plant in Rexdale, Ontario, decided to enhance one of its main brands by introducing a new oil ingredient. This required the construction of a new oil blending system under tight time and space constraints. Dick Engineering provided preliminary and detailed engineering, assistance with procurement, commissioning and start-up. The services included: 3D modeling, pre-fabricate the skid and piping and interfacing with an existing PLC control system. |

Energy Savings |
|
Dec 13/07: Dick Engineering was retained by Cadbury Adams Canada Inc. to undertake an "in-depth" energy savings program at its Bertrand Manufacturing site. The program included HVAC, steam powerhouse and lighting systems. The services included identifying opportunities, calculating the savings, cost and payback, and providing detailed engineering and field assistance. Almost completed, the program has already surpassed the expected savings. |

ERCO ClO2 Plant Upgrade |

Nov 23/07: In July of 2007, Dick Engineering was retained by ERCO Worldwide to perform the detailed piping design for an upgrade to an existing chlorine dioxide plant in the Southern US. This project was completed in 3D using Aveva's PDMS. In order to reduce field work and simplify the piping design process, a 3-dimensional scanned 'As-Built' model of the plant was created prior to commencing the piping design. |

New Utilities Facility for CVRD Inco |

Aug 16/07: In late 2006, Dick Engineering was retained by CVRD Inco Limited to perform detailed engineering for the Electrowinning Utilities Rationalization project at its Copper Cliff Nickel Refinery. The project includes the installation of new boilers and air compressors, as well as a new dry facility. |

Paper Mill Expansion |

Aug 1/07: NGC Industries, Inc. of Charlotte, NC, has retained Dick Engineering Inc. to provide project management, procurement, and construction management services for a major expansion of their Oxford, AL paper mill.
The expansion includes the installation of a state-of-the-art paper machine to produce three-ply, light weight gypsum linerboard, and a new steam plant. |

Vice President, Sudbury Operations Appointed |

Jul 19/07: Larry Coelho has been promoted to the position of Vice President, Sudbury Operations and will manage our new Sudbury office. We expect to have the Sudbury office operational within approximately 4 to 5 wk. We all wish Larry great success with our new presence in Northern Ontario. |

Major Plant Conversion Completed |

Sep 1/06: GreenField Ethanol Inc. (formerly Commercial Alcohols Inc.), a major fuel ethanol producer in Chatham, Ontario, completed a major plant conversion to increase production of higher value added products. Dick Engineering is proud to have participated in the project by providing engineering under a subcontract to Delta T Corporation, the technology provider. In addition to detailed design, Dick Engineering provided: preliminary engineering, assistance with procurement and participation in the HAZOP analysis. |

Orchids Paper Machine Start-Up |

Jun 22/06: Dick Engineering congratulates Orchids Paper Products Co. on the production of saleable parent rolls at expected start-up rates on their new paper machine. Dick Engineering provided engineering, procurement, and construction management services for the project, which is expected to operate at a rate of approximately 35,000 tons per year after the completion of the start-up process.
In Orchids' press release, Michael Sage, President and CEO, is quoted as saying: "We are extremely pleased with the start-up to date. The on-time start-up is a reflection of the quality work by our employees, our engineering company and the paper machine manufacturer." |

Ethanol from Biomass |

Jan 31/05: Dick Engineering is pleased to announce the successful completion of detailed study work carried out with the STAKETECH Steam Explosion Division of SunOpta Inc. This work consisted of the preliminary design for both pilot and commercial scale biomass-to-ethanol plants based on wheat straw and corn stover feedstocks. |

Candy and Gum Startup |

Jan 3/05: Cadbury Adams' Bertrand Manufacturing Site, located in Toronto, has undergone an extensive upgrade over the last 4 years. Dick Engineering is pleased to have participated by providing engineering services. The project has highly proprietary processes and stringent environmental conditions in the production and packaging areas for candy and gum. We congratulate Adams on its successful startup. |

New Production Records at CityForest! |

Dec 20/04: On Dec 20 CityForest set two new deinked pulp production records resulting from the Elephant Filter Project. Dick Engineering is proud to have provided process design and structural design. The project started up on time, under budget and is already producing over design. |

Inco |
|
Aug 10/04: Inco Inc. is constructing No. 4 Oxygen Plant to replace No. 1 and 2 Oxygen Plants at its Copper Cliff Smelter in Sudbury, Ontario. Praxair, Inc. is supplying the oxygen generator and Auburn Technical Services (ATS) is supplying the "balance of plant" for the project. ATS has selected Dick Engineering to perform the engineering services covered under its mandate. The project involves the detailed design for the tie in of the new plant to the existing operations. The design will allow for a smooth transition from the existing plants to the new generator and includes over 4,000 feet of large bore nitrogen and high purity oxygen pipelines. |

Menasha MACT II |

Feb 12/04: Dick Engineering is pleased to announce the successful fall 2003 startup of the MACT II environmental project at Menasha Corporation’s NSSC pulp mill in Otsego, MI. Dick Engineering provided assistance in selecting the process equipment and performed detailed design for this challenging project. |

Gum Processing Relocation Completed Over Christmas |

Jan 12/04: Adams Manufacturing, a division of Cadbury Trebor Allan, completed the relocation of the sugarless gum processing operation at its Toronto plant over a Christmas shutdown. This project required careful design and planning and precise execution to meet Adam's demanding schedule, short shutdown, safety and quality standards. Dick Engineering is pleased to have participated in this project by providing detailed engineering, procurement assistance, code compliance review and assistance during construction. |

New Deink Plant for China in 9 Months |

Nov 15/03: Ningbo Zhonghua Paper Co. Ltd successfully started up its new 150 t/d deink plant producing pulp for whitetop linerboard. The plant was supplied by Kadant Black Clawson, with Dick Engineering performing the detailed engineering under a subcontract to KBC. enlisted the services of a group of local Chinese engineers to assist with the project. From start of engineering, through to construction and start-up, took 10 months. |

Latest Preprint Technology |

Sep 19/03: Dick Engineering began detailed engineering for Schiffenhaus Canada's new preprint press installation. This new press will bring the total number of SCI presses to five. The press, supplied by Conprinta Printing Technology from Germany, uses innovative new technology such as impression belts instead of cylinders. The press provides several advantages such as reduced set up time, lower manufacturing costs, shorter lead time and enhanced repeatability. |

Deinked Pulp Mill Upgrade for Mexico |

Jan 15/03: Dick Engineering was retained by the Fabrica de Papel San Francisco, located in Mexicali, Mexico, to provide basic engineering for the upgrade of its deinked pulp mill that supplies furnish to their tissue machines. The objectives were to decrease visible ink and stickies, and to increase capacity from 100 t/d to 150 t/d, with future expansion to 175 t/d. |
