Cecchetto Tailings Dam Siphon Line in Operation |

May 16/12: Dick Engineering Inc. is pleased to have participated in the successful start-up of the siphon lines at the Cecchetto Tailings Dam in Sudbury, Ontario. Dick Engineering's services included engineering design of two NPS 42 siphon lines, including associated buildings and mechanical systems, control system configuration and assistance during construction. |

Major expansion without interrupting production |

Apr 12/11: Dick Engineering congratulates New Forest Paper Mills LP on the successful start-up of its upgraded OCC plant. The upgrade increases the system capacity from 700 to 1,000 t/d. Dick Engineering provided preliminary engineering, a capital cost estimate, detailed engineering and construction management. Careful engineering and client collaboration enabled this major expansion to proceed without interrupting production. |

Jan 13/11: The Canadian Renewable Fuels Association's (CRFA) mission is "to promote and advance the use of renewable fuels". Dick Engineering is proud to have again participated at its summit in Ottawa last December and to continue our involvement in the biofuels industry. Mar 16/09: In response to market demand and to increase efficiency, Unilever decided to implement a major production restructuring at its margarine plant in Rexdale, Ontario. Dick Engineering was retained to provide preliminary and detailed engineering together with construction management. |

Mash Preparation Upgrade |
|
Sep 25/08: Construction has begun on the mash preparation system upgrade at Hiram Walker's plant in Windsor, ON. The upgrade includes state-of-the-art technologies using high efficiency enzymes. Dick Engineering completed the preliminary and detailed engineering, and will continue to support the construction team throughout commissioning. |

Innovative Solution to Potential Sugar Silo Explosion |
|
Aug 8/08: Cadbury Adams Canada Inc., Toronto, Gladstone Ave. facility completed the installation, commissioning and start-up of two new sugar silos to replace two existing silos. Since sugar is classified as “easily ignitable” normal practice is to provide pressure relief using rupture discs. However in the case of Cadbury this was not possible due to the potential safety hazard of plant operators as well as near-by residential neighbours. Therefore a new and innovative solution was developed by replacing the two existing tanks with two new tanks each having an ASME rating of 150 psig and capable of absorbing the potential explosion force without rupturing. The system also includes state of-the-art valve explosion isolation technology. Dick Engineering provided preliminary and detailed design for the project. |

Deink System Upgrade |

Jul 9/08: Dick Engineering completed a study to upgrade Augusta Select Tissue (AST)’s deink plant in Augusta, GA. The project consisted of upgrading an existing 60 tpd deink system to 100 tpd and improving the process to handle lower cost wastepaper. The recommendations included installation of a second hand high consistency batch pulper, feed conveyor and detrasher, additional coarse screening, improved washing increased flotation capacity, fine screen upgrade, installation of a second hand 55’ Krofta clarifier and new sludge thickening system. (Oct 2/08 Update: AST are currently installing the new clarifier, pulper and sludge thickening system.) |

PM Rebuild |
|
Feb 5/08: Dick Engineering is pleased to announce that APC Paper’s Norfolk, NY mill successfully completed their PM wet end rebuild and started up on schedule. The wet end rebuild was the second phase of a planned three phase rebuild program. The first phase, completed in August 2007 included a transfer press replacement. The future third phase includes a Bi-Nip Press installation. The objectives of the rebuild were to make a new grade of creped tissue and increase speed from 1400 to 2000 fpm. The project included a combination of new and rebuilt equipment. Dick Engineering provided preliminary engineering, capital cost estimate, detailed engineering, procurement and construction management assistance. |

Oil Blending System |

Jan 15/08: Unilever is a world-wide leader in following the "healthy eating trend" and providing consumers with new specialty products. Its margarine plant in Rexdale, Ontario, decided to enhance one of its main brands by introducing a new oil ingredient. This required the construction of a new oil blending system under tight time and space constraints. Dick Engineering provided preliminary and detailed engineering, assistance with procurement, commissioning and start-up. The services included: 3D modeling, pre-fabricate the skid and piping and interfacing with an existing PLC control system. |

Energy Savings |
|
Dec 13/07: Dick Engineering was retained by Cadbury Adams Canada Inc. to undertake an "in-depth" energy savings program at its Bertrand Manufacturing site. The program included HVAC, steam powerhouse and lighting systems. The services included identifying opportunities, calculating the savings, cost and payback, and providing detailed engineering and field assistance. Almost completed, the program has already surpassed the expected savings. |

ERCO ClO2 Plant Upgrade |
|
Nov 23/07: In July of 2007, Dick Engineering was retained by ERCO Worldwide to perform the detailed piping design for an upgrade to an existing chlorine dioxide plant in the Southern US. This project was completed in 3D using Aveva's PDMS. In order to reduce field work and simplify the piping design process, a 3-dimensional scanned 'As-Built' model of the plant was created prior to commencing the piping design. |

New Utilities Facility for CVRD Inco |

Aug 16/07: In late 2006, Dick Engineering was retained by CVRD Inco Limited to perform detailed engineering for the Electrowinning Utilities Rationalization project at its Copper Cliff Nickel Refinery. The project includes the installation of new boilers and air compressors, as well as a new dry facility. |

Paper Mill Expansion |

Aug 1/07: NGC Industries, Inc. of Charlotte, NC, has retained Dick Engineering Inc. to provide project management, procurement, and construction management services for a major expansion of their Oxford, AL paper mill.
The expansion includes the installation of a state-of-the-art paper machine to produce three-ply, light weight gypsum linerboard, and a new steam plant. |

Vice President, Sudbury Operations Appointed |

Jul 19/07: Larry Coelho has been promoted to the position of Vice President, Sudbury Operations and will manage our new Sudbury office. We expect to have the Sudbury office operational within approximately 4 to 5 wk. We all wish Larry great success with our new presence in Northern Ontario. |
